Why restore your front teeth?

There are many personal reasons for enhancing or restoring a smile. Before any treatment, it is important to identify the cause.

Broken or cracked front tooth
Broken or cracked front tooth

An impact or injury can cause a visible fracture or an internal crack that weakens the tooth structure. If the damage progresses, the tooth may become painful or infected and dental tissue may be lost.

Worn or overly short front teeth

Bruxism and acid erosion reduce the height of the incisors and wear away the protective enamel. This wear changes the bite, increases sensitivity and gives the smile a prematurely aged appearance.

Problems with the shape or position of the front teeth

Conical, overly small, spaced or overlapping teeth affect the appearance of the smile and can make oral hygiene more difficult. These irregularities encourage plaque build-up and may eventually affect function and the balance of the bite.

Persistent discolouration of the front teeth

Depending on the cause of the discolouration, cleaning, whitening or a restoration may be discussed after an examination. Internal discolouration does not automatically require a veneer or crown.

Missing front tooth

Losing an incisor immediately leaves a gap and disrupts speech and chewing. Over time, the empty space encourages neighbouring teeth to move and the bone to resorb, disrupting the dental arch.

When should you seek advice? Signs you should not ignore

Professional care is recommended if one or more of the following situations applies to you:

  • You feel self-conscious about the appearance of your teeth and avoid smiling in photographs.
  • A front tooth is visibly damaged or worn, or has an unusual colour (grey or yellow).
  • You have increased sensitivity in your front teeth.
  • You are missing a front tooth, making chewing more difficult and affecting your speech.
  • You simply want to improve the alignment, shape or colour of your smile so that it reflects your personality.

After an impact, a broken, displaced or loose tooth requires prompt professional advice, even if there is little pain. Read about the first steps to take for a broken tooth.

To obtain a quote, you will first need to attend the practice for an assessment. Contact us by email using the form or by telephone to book an appointment.

What are the options for restoring your front teeth?

The treatment used to restore front teeth depends on the diagnosis and the patient's cosmetic goals. At Cabinet Dentaire de la Madeleine, we always aim for the least invasive solution possible in order to preserve as much dental tissue as we can. For a small chip, a composite repair may sometimes be sufficient. This option is considered before a veneer or crown. If several areas of your dentition are affected, you can also explore the options for restoring all your teeth.

Orthodontics to correct the alignment of the front teeth
Orthodontics to correct the alignment of the front teeth
Orthodontics (correcting alignment)

Misaligned teeth, rotated teeth or uneven spaces can affect appearance and, in some cases, chewing function.

  • Treatment: Orthodontics repositions the teeth within the arch to restore proper bite function and achieve a lasting cosmetic result. Treatment takes time, but effectively corrects misalignment.

Possible options include:

  • Metal braces ;
  • Ceramic braces ;
  • Invisible orthodontics (Invisalign) ;
  • Removable appliances.

Clear aligner treatment: between €2 500 and €6 000, depending on the complexity of the case and the patient's needs.

Dental veneers to restore the incisors

Stains, wear or small gaps between the teeth can affect the appearance of the smile. These issues can be corrected quickly when the tooth structure allows for a conservative solution.

  • Treatment: Dental veneers alter the appearance of the visible surfaces of the teeth to improve the colour, shape and proportions of the smile. These restorations are custom-made and bonded in place to provide a cosmetic result suited to the patient. A veneer may require irreversible preparation of the enamel. This is explained before treatment.

Price of ceramic veneers: between €1 200 and €1 800 per tooth.

Fitting a dental crown to a damaged tooth
Dental crown (damaged front teeth)

Sometimes a tooth loses a substantial amount of its structure following a fracture, significant wear or root canal treatment. In these situations, its strength and seal must be restored to preserve function and prevent further complications.

  • Treatment: A crown covers the remaining tooth, protects its structure and restores both function and appearance. The choice of material depends on the tooth's position and the cosmetic requirements.

Price of an implant-supported crown at our practice: between €1 200 and €1 700, depending on the patient's needs and the complexity of the case.

Dental implant to replace a front tooth

Losing a visible tooth affects the appearance of the smile and may alter chewing function and speech. The replacement option should be selected with regard to the condition of the bone, the adjacent teeth and the patient's cosmetic expectations.

  • Treatment: A dental implant is one option for replacing a missing tooth. It is an artificial titanium root inserted into the jawbone, onto which a ceramic crown is fitted. A bridge may be considered as an alternative. It is supported by the neighbouring teeth, with the preparation varying according to the type of bridge.

Price of a single implant (excluding the crown): €1 000 per tooth.

Bone graft followed by dental implant placement

Where there is insufficient bone, an unattractive gum contour or inadequate soft-tissue quality, preliminary procedures may be required.

  • Treatment: Additional techniques, such as bone or gum grafting, can prepare the site and improve the conditions for treatment. Other techniques use platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). These options are not offered at our practice.

Cost of a gum graft: between €500 and €3 000, depending on the size of the area to be treated.

FAQ

How much do these treatments cost, and are they covered?

Prices vary depending on the chosen solution (composite, veneer, crown, implant or graft) and the complexity of your situation. Purely cosmetic treatments such as veneers are not generally reimbursed by the French national health insurance system. You will receive a detailed, personalised quote after an initial consultation. Send this document to your supplementary health insurer to find out what is covered and how much you will need to pay.

How long do these restorations last?

The longevity of your new smile depends on the quality of the materials, your lifestyle and the regular follow-up recommended by your practitioner.

Can front teeth be restored without pain?

When the treatment requires it, our practitioners use local anaesthetic to minimise pain. We do everything we can to make your experience as calm and comfortable as possible.

How should I look after my new smile?

Care is similar to that for natural teeth: thorough brushing at least twice a day, using dental floss or interdental brushes, and regular check-ups with your dentist. If you grind your teeth, a protective night guard may be recommended after an examination.

Should I see a dentist or an orthodontist to restore a front tooth?

For a repair or cosmetic improvement, see a dental surgeon. For an alignment or positioning problem, see an orthodontist.

Will I be left without a tooth during treatment?

Depending on the treatment, a temporary solution may be considered while the restoration is being made or the area is healing. Your practitioner will explain the available options and their limitations during the assessment.
